Dates can change: confirm on the official Experience AlUla calendar before you book. Plan your light around a 07:10 sunrise and 17:40 sunset: the first and last two hours are the best for Hegra, Elephant Rock and photography.
What to pack for AlUla in December
Layers: a warm fleece or down jacket for early mornings, balloon flights and stargazing, plus light layers for the afternoon. Cover shoulders and knees at heritage sites (see our dress code guide) and wear closed shoes for rocky ground.
A 3-day AlUla itinerary built for December
Day 1 - Winter at Tantora arrival
Use the Oasis and Old Town before an evening event. Restaurant and concert bookings matter this month.
Day 2 - peak-season Hegra
Reserve weeks ahead, wear layers for the morning and avoid placing another fixed tour immediately afterward.
Day 3 - Dadan, Maraya and a deliberate gap
Take Dadan/Jabal Ikmah in the morning, keep the afternoon open, then choose Maraya, Elephant Rock or a Tantora event-not all three.
