Travel warnings reviewed 23 October 2026. Australia and New Zealand say Do not travel; the UK advises against all but essential travel to the rest of Saudi Arabia, alongside its Yemen-border no-travel zone. Check the official-advice comparison and airport restrictions before booking. A calculator, terminal guide or ticket for sale does not confirm a safe or operating route.

AlUla and the Red Sea resorts are the big cost drivers: this model assigns higher hotel allowances to AlUla and the Red Sea resorts. Its Red Sea range starts at SAR 2,000 (≈ $533) per room per night as an assumption, not a verified market minimum. Alcohol is not available to visitors, so there are no bar bills.
How the calculator builds your estimate
- Hotels and room sharing (per room, per night): A trip of d days prices d − 1 hotel nights split across your selected stops, assuming 1 room for every 2 travellers.
- Flights between cities (per person, per one-way flight hop) and from home (per person, return): Selecting more than one stop adds one-way domestic flight hops between cities (SAR 300–700 (≈ $80–187) per person per flight hop for Budget and Mid-range; SAR 900–2,000 (≈ $240–533) for Luxury). Unless you choose Leave out international flights, the total adds return economy fares per person by region ($150–400 Middle East/Gulf, $350–800 South & Southeast Asia, $450–900 Europe/UK, $900–1,600 North America, $1,100–1,900 Australia/New Zealand, converted at SAR 3.75 (≈ $1.00) per USD, or 3–4× those ranges for Luxury business class).
- Local transport and fuel (per car, per day): Ride apps / driver budgets 1 car per day for every 3 travellers (or every 4 travellers for a Luxury private driver). Hire a car budgets 1 vehicle per day for every 5 travellers plus an illustrative SAR 40 (≈ $11) per car per day for fuel, and automatically uses the SUV rate (SAR 250–450 (≈ $67–120) per car per day before fuel) on Budget and Mid-range trips whenever AlUla is included.
- Per-trip and per-day extras (per person): The calculator adds an illustrative SAR 535 (≈ $143) per person per trip for the online tourist eVisa (which bundles mandatory basic emergency medical insurance on the official portal visa.visitsaudi.com, where exact live totals vary by applicant; see the Saudi visa cost calculator), SAR 56–113 (≈ $15–30) per person per trip for an eSIM, and SAR 15–40 (≈ $4.00–11) per person per day for optional top-up travel insurance beyond the visa’s basic medical cover. All figures in the calculator and table are illustrative planning estimates, not live quotes.
For hotel picks see where to stay in Riyadh and where to stay in AlUla.
How to cut the cost
- Travel in October–November or February–April: compare date-specific hotel quotes rather than assuming every shoulder-season night is cheaper.
- Book Hegra and AlUla hotels early, when cheaper rooms are still available.
- Use the Riyadh Metro and ride apps instead of a car in Riyadh; hire a car only for AlUla.
- Use the visa cost calculator - compare eligible visa options and confirm the current total at the official checkout.
Include a visa allowance alongside flights and accommodation: see the visa estimate and official checkout guidance and how to apply.

| Item | What the official source displays | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Hegra Day Tour | Experience AlUla: from SAR 95 (≈ $25) per person | A starting price for this named shared guided tour, not every Hegra product or a full day of activities. Check dates, eligibility and inclusions. |
| Saudi retail fuel, October 2026 | Aramco: PG91 SAR 2.18 (≈ $0.58)/litre; PG95 SAR 2.33 (≈ $0.62)/litre | At 8 litres/100 km, 100 km on PG95 uses about SAR 18.64 (≈ $4.97) in fuel. The model’s SAR 40 (≈ $11)/car/day is a distance-independent allowance, not a pump price. |
| Tourist eVisa | Official portal: no current itemised checkout quote obtained | SAR 535 (≈ $143) stays an explicit model assumption. Different visa routes can have different insurance and charges. |
| Hotels, flights, car hire, food, eSIM and top-up insurance | No date-, traveller- and itinerary-matched set of live quotes collected | All model ranges remain illustrative. Check taxes, baggage, transfers, activity cover and cancellation terms before booking. |
Example fuel arithmetic: 100 km × 8 L/100 km × SAR 2.33 (≈ $0.62)/L = SAR 18.64 (≈ $4.97). Your distance, vehicle and recommended fuel grade determine the real cost. A 7-day trip uses 6 hotel nights in this model; a 1-day trip uses none. Airport warnings and disruption may make an otherwise affordable itinerary unsuitable.
Turn the estimate into a bookable budget
The estimate is a starting point, not a basket of live offers. Compare quotes for the same dates, travellers, luggage and cancellation conditions. An affordable itinerary may still be unsuitable under current travel warnings.
- Entry and cover first: confirm the official visa checkout and ask your insurer about the current route and exclusions.
- Match arrival details: use the Riyadh or Jeddah terminal guide, then reconfirm with your airline. A scheduled flight is not proof that a route is advisable or will operate.
- Compare total ground costs: check car hire deposits, fuel and exclusions against transfers and ride apps, rather than comparing the daily headline price alone.
- Book only the extras you need: check eSIM compatibility and the Hegra ticket planner for the product and date you intend to use.

Questions travellers ask
How much does a week in Saudi Arabia cost?
Excluding international flights, this calculator estimates about SAR 3,250–6,270 (≈ $867–1,672) per person on a budget, SAR 5,920–11,400 (≈ $1,579–3,040) mid-range (or SAR 6,510–12,240 (≈ $1,736–3,264) if hiring an SUV) and SAR 16,800–36,630 (≈ $4,480–9,768) for luxury, for a 7-day (6-night) trip covering Riyadh, AlUla and Jeddah with two people sharing one room. Those illustrative totals include the calculator’s SAR 535 (≈ $143) per person per trip eVisa assumption (including mandatory basic medical insurance), two one-way domestic flight hops per person, 6 hotel nights, 7 days of food, local transport, tours and top-up travel insurance (SAR 15–40 (≈ $4.00–11) per person per day), plus a per-trip eSIM. AlUla is the most expensive city stop.
Is Saudi Arabia expensive to visit?
Riyadh and Jeddah are moderately priced, similar to other Gulf cities. AlUla and the Red Sea resorts are expensive, and the online tourist eVisa adds an estimated SAR 535 (≈ $143) per person per trip (including mandatory basic medical insurance).
How much should I budget per day in Saudi Arabia?
For the seven-day, six-night example above, dividing the model’s per-person total by seven gives about SAR 464–896 (≈ $124–239) per day for Budget, SAR 846–1,629 (≈ $226–434) for Mid-range and SAR 2,400–5,233 (≈ $640–1,395) for Luxury. These illustrative averages assume two sharing, Riyadh/AlUla/Jeddah, ride apps, the visa allowance, domestic flights and extras, but exclude international flights. They are not verified live daily prices.
