Why go
At-Turaif was the seat of the first Saudi state in the 18th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its palaces and walls, built in the Najdi mud-brick style, have been carefully restored with museums and galleries inside.
Across the wadi, Bujairi Terrace is a dining quarter with views over At-Turaif, and one of the best evening settings in Riyadh.
How to do it
- Arrive about an hour before sunset to walk At-Turaif in good light.
- Cross to Bujairi Terrace for dinner as the walls are lit up.
- It is roughly 20–30 minutes by car from central Riyadh. Uber and Careem work well.

How to spend an evening in Diriyah
- Arrive around 4pm and walk At-Turaif while it is light, starting at Salwa Palace, the seat of the early Saudi rulers.
- Visit the galleries inside the restored buildings, which explain the rise of the first Saudi state in the 1700s.
- Cross to Bujairi Terrace at sunset for views back over At-Turaif and dinner at one of its restaurants. Reserve on weekends.
- Walk Wadi Hanifa after dark if you still have energy; the paths are lit and busy with families.
