Safety
- There are no barriers at the cliff edge. Keep well back, especially in wind.
- Bring more water than you think, a head torch and a warm layer for after dark.
- Signal is patchy. Tell someone your plans if you go independently.

Tour or self-drive?
Take a tour if you do not have a 4x4, have never driven on desert tracks, or want sunset without driving back in the dark. Tours usually include pickup in Riyadh, the off-road section, and often dinner or tea at the top.
Self-drive only with a proper 4x4, offline maps and a full tank, and go in convoy if you can. Many rental contracts forbid unpaved roads, so check yours: damage there is rarely covered.

Safety at the cliff edge
- There are no barriers. Stay well back from the edge, especially in wind.
- The walk down to the lower viewpoints is steep, loose and rocky. Wear proper shoes.
- Phone signal is weak. Tell someone your plans.
- Leave before full dark unless you are with a guide who knows the track.

Can you drive to Edge of the World yourself?
Only in a proper 4x4 with off-road experience. The final section is a rough track and most hire contracts do not allow it. A tour is the easier option.
Is Edge of the World open?
Access can close after rain or in summer heat. Tour operators track this and will reschedule if needed.
Do you need a permit for Edge of the World?
Rules and access arrangements have changed over the years. Tours handle access for you; if self-driving, check the latest local guidance before you go.
Can you visit Edge of the World in summer?
It is possible early morning or at sunset, but daytime heat is dangerous and access may be restricted. Winter is far better.
